The Michigan District supports the following scholoarship programs. 

Optimist International Essay Contest

Topic for the 2017-18 School Year is: “Can Society Function Without Respect?”
Youth under the age of 18 as of October 1, 2017 located in the US, Canada, or the Caribbean.

Student Optimist Essays and Application packets will be accepted only up to each club’s individual deadline, usually January 31st, but not necessarily.  It is up to each student to contact the local club nearest to them for submission details and deadlines.

Participating Clubs

A student may only submit to ONE local club. Additional submissions will result in disqualification.

Standings or results are not sent to individual entrants unless you are the winner in one of the local contests. If so, you will receive further instructions before the end of February. The local club winners will go on to compete for a $2,500 scholarship!

Local Clubs must submit their Winner’s essay and completed packet to Sherry Regiani, District Chair, no later than Feb 28, 2018.

Oratorical Contest

The Oratorical Contest is open to students under 18 as of October 1, 2016 and who are educated in the United States, Canada or the Caribbean. Students are required to prepare a 4- to 5-minute speech on a pre-assigned topic. This contest is designed to assist youth in gaining public speaking experience and provide them with an opportunity to compete for a scholarship.
